(103-1) Our goal is for our employees to return home healthy every day, because in Celsia security is a vital value. The management of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) that we carry out aims to create a culture of self-care, since – to the extent that our employees and contractors are safe – we achieve the goals of business sustainability and permanent improvement of our labor environment.
(103-2) We have a Management System based on planning, execution, verification and action, made up of 12 elements that allow us to establish the guidelines, parameters and methodologies necessary to promote, prevent and maintain the health and safety at the desired level.
(103-3) We have also established a governance scheme
This guarantees that all our areas participate in the decision-making of the system and in the follow-up of the management and results, with the advice of a Design Team and the OSH Management, who support the implementation in their operations.
This is our main strategy to turn safety into a corporate value, a lifestyle and part of our work culture.
To achieve this we develop activities that seek:
Sensitize our employees to be safer.
Have clear guidelines to act in cases of risk.
Provide permanent support on OHS issues that increasingly ensure the Company’s permanence.
Reduction in our Accident Frequency Indicator, compared to 2018.
Likewise, we are meeting the goals that we have set for the LTIFR and the LTISR; we managed to eliminate fatal accidents in 2019. This is the first zero that we must maintain.
Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) (Employees)
Lost Time Injury Severity Rate (LTISR) (Employees)
Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR) (Contractors)
Lost Time Injury Severity Rate (LTISR) (Contractors)
Training in Occupational Health and Safety
We know that to achieve the proposed goals on OHS issues, we must strive every day and train our employees and contractors in order to improve their safety capabilities and skills.
In 2019, our Training Plan focused on the main dangers detected in the analysis of risks and the characterization of accidents. With the entry into operation of Tolima, we also carried out a Start-Up Training Plan in I Choose to Take Care of Myself for direct employees and contractors.
The main topics were:
- Safe work at heights.
- Training in health promotion.
- Prevention of musculoskeletal accidents and diseases.
- Investigation and analysis techniques of work accidents.
- Emergencies, first aid and fire control.
- Operational technical training.
In 2019 we made decisive progress in consolidating the cultural transformation proposed years ago and the results demonstrate this:
Zero fatalities in employees and contractors.
The lowest recorded: a reduction of 52% in LTIFR and 94% in LTISR compared to 2016.
The control of the three main dangers of contractors (motorcycle road, electric and work at heights) and the correct and constant use of personal protection elements contributed to the decrease in Severity.
The internal evaluation carried out with the consulting firm DuPont, which compared us with large companies in the energy sector around the world, resulted in our being at an “independent” level. All teams take responsibility for health and safety management, and this represents a great advance in our cultural transformation around these issues.
In Our Operation
Our operating teams are committed to the objectives that we have set as an Organization and seek to incorporate these guidelines into their daily activities.
The Energy Generation team managed to exceed the goals proposed for its Lost Time Injury Severity Rate (LTISR) and Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR).
The Transmission and Distribution team managed to exceed the goals proposed in their objective Lost Time Injury Severity Rate (LTISR) and Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR).
In LTIFR we achieved a reduction of 50.05% compared to 2018 and in LTISR, a reduction of 21.78% compared to that same year.
Achieve zero fatalities and reduce the LTIFR and LTISR by 10% compared to 2019 in employees and contractors.
Consolidate the culture of safety and self-care in contractors through the Contractor Management Model.
Specify a health strategy focused on prevention and promotion.
Strengthen the I Choose to Take Care of Myself Program to improve Severity and Frequency indicators in our direct employees and contractors, expanding the scope of the Tolima operation.
Create a platform to preventively analyze information.
Strengthen conscious leadership in OHS.
Apply data science to venture into the predictive analysis of health and safety indicators.
Be the OSH benchmark in the energy sector of the countries where we have operations.
Lost Time Injury Frequency Rate (LTIFR)
An indicator that measures the frequency with which accidents occur during the workday for every million hours worked.
Lost Time Injury Severity Rate (LTISR)
An indicator that measures the severity of work accidents and represents the number of days lost per million hours worked.
Internal motivation that generates a high commitment to self-care, due to the great involvement with procedures that internalize safety and lead it to personal values; the result is to generate safe experiences and healthy habits.
I Choose to Take Care of Myself (YEC, in Spanish)
The internal transformation program to turn safety into a life value.
